Career Overview
Actor Matt Dillon was discovered by a casting director at his high school in NY while he was cutting class. The resulting audition landed him a part in Over the Edge in 1979 and established him as a teenage star. Early in his career, Dillon generally portrayed “troubled youth†roles in movies like My Bodyguard, Little Darlings, Liar’s Moon, Tex and Rumble Fish. After tackling some broader roles in projects like The Flamingo Kid, Mr. Wonderful and To Die For, Dillon made his writing and directorial debut with the feature film City of Ghosts in 2002.
For his role in the Academy–Awarding winning movie Crash, Dillon received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe. He also won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villian for his role as a sleazy detective in There’s Something About Mary in 1998. In 2006, Dillon was honored with the Premio Donostia prize in the San Sebastian International Film Festival for starring in You, Me and Dupree with Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson.
The action-packed thriller Armored is Dillon’s latest project. A new guard for an armored truck company is coerced by his coworkers to steal a truck containing $42 million until their plan goes awry in a deadly twist.
