Lou Dobbs is a founding member of CNN. After graduating from Harvard with his Bachelors in Economics, Mr. Dobbs started out in the 1970’s as a news reporter and anchor. He was recruited at the ground level of CNN as the chief economics correspondent. He later managed, edited, and hosted a news program, Lou Dobbs Reporting, which later became CNN News Sunday Morning. Mr. Dobbs also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show, The Lou Dobbs Financial Report, and he is a regular columnist in Money magazine, U.S. News & World Report and the New York Daily News. Currently, Lou Dobbs is the anchor and managing editor of CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight. His current written works include, “Independents Day: Awakening the American Spirit,” and the New York Times bestseller “War on the Middle Class”. In addition to winning nearly every major award for television journalism, Lou Dobbs won The Man of the Year Award from The Organization for the Rights of American Workers in 2004. Aside from his major achievements, he has made contributions to the national debate on jobs, global trade and outsourcing and created a series, “Broken Borders,” which examines U.S. policy towards illegal immigration.

Lou Dobbs joins ThinkTalk host Janell Snowden to discuss his career in journalism, and how he landed a job as a CNN anchor. Dobbs also explains the difference between reporting financial news and reporting general news. Dobbs answers questions from students about being a financial reporter and how he stays objective in his reporting despite having strong positions on certain issues.
