Career Overview

    Jeff Ma attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a member of the MIT Blackjack Team in the mid 1990s that went to Las Vegas and made millions of dollars by counting cards. He and his teammates were the inspiration for the best selling book Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions and the film 21, starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, and Kate Bosworth. Ma also makes a cameo in the film as a blackjack dealer.

    Ma co-founded an interactive sports-trading fantasy website called Pro-Trade and a sports-information website called Citizen Sports. He also does consulting work for professional sports teams and makes appearances as a motivational speaker at conferences and corporate events.

Our Interview

    Jeff Ma sits down with Zack Sherwood to talk about his transition from working for the Chicago Board of Options Exchange, to joining the Blackjack team from MIT, and co-founding a fantasy sports Trade Company while doing some motivational speaking. He advises students to focus on the opportunity to learn from their experiences and not to be concerned with making money in the short run.
