Carlos Cuaron is a Mexican screenwriter, film producer and director from Mexico City. Cuaron gained recognition in 2001 after writing the critically acclaimed film Y tu mamá también with brother Alfonso Cuaron. Y tu mamá también won the Silver Lion Award for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival as well as Oscars and Bafta Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay.
Carlos studied English Literature at Mexico's National University and began his career as a screenwriter on the television series La Hora Marcada. Carlos has studied the writing technique of legendary writing teacher Syd Field and also attended the coveted Sundance Institute Screenwriter's Lab.
Carlos sat down with ThinkTalk Host Zack Sherwood to discuss his first feature film, Rudo y Cursi. Carlos gave advice on the art of writing, and talked about his rise from television writer to director. He also talked about the challenges of transitioning from a writer to the director's chair.
