Conviction

Conviction is the inspirational true story of a brother and sister’s unwavering bond. When Betty Anne Waters’ brother Kenny (Rockwell) is arrested and sentenced to life in prison, she dedicates her life to overturning the conviction and proving his innocence. After an 18 year journey, Waters uncovers facts and utilizes evidence in an attempt to gain her brother’s freedom.
Betty Anne Waters is the heroine the story is based on. Waters, wife and mother of two, put herself through 18 years of school to become a lawyer and fight her brother’s case. As an unemployed single mother she was able to exonerate her wrongfully convicted brother with the help of attorney Barry Scheck from the Innocence Project. In order to do this she earned her GED, then her bachelor's, a master's in education, and eventually a law degree from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
