As the national unemployment rate climbs its way to 9.8 percent, college students may be wondering if moving back home with mom and dad may be the solution to their jobless woes after graduation.

At Wake Forest University (a ThinkTalk school!), The Old Gold and Black had a startling article about unemployment statistics for 2009 and 2010 graduates:

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), only 19.7 percent of 2009 graduates who applied for a job are currently employed. In comparison, 51 percent of those who graduated in 2007 had already secured employment by the time of graduation.

The statistics for 2010 are even worse. In a recent survey conducted by NACE, employers expect to hire 7 percent fewer graduates in 2010 than they hired in 2009.

While unemployment rates do not seem to be making the great turn around we have all been praying for, we may find hope in relocation. (And no, I do not mean the fabulous, after college apartment your mom put together in the basement for you.) According to Forbes, in certain cities more businesses are looking to hire not fire! Forbes has compiled a list of America’s best and worst cities for new jobs, featuring Lincoln, Nebraska, as the no.1 city expected to hire. Just think, your future job may just be a plane ride away.
