My internship life at ThinkTalk has been more than two weeks. I moved in a new house near Dupont Circle Station (it’s easy to take DC circulators via K streets I really like that location) and I got a good Colombian roommate. Everything was okay to start my DC life.
However, last week, I had to make it through all disasters. I was shocked the earthquake that made many people horrible and also three days after, I got a warning about the hurricane, Irene (Actually, she was not so serious what I expected. But earthquake was my first experience in whole my life regardless of growing up in Korea that is so close to Japan) In the while the earthquake shaking our building, I grabbed Hansol's one hand and escaped to first floor and I saw many people worried about the happening. Fireman and Fire engines came to here this North Capitol Street nearby the Capitol and our building, some of broadcasting staffs from Fox News were with their cameras and they started their live broadcast in front of the building. I know that fortunately, it was not big problem in this city. But for my family, it was. My mom in Korea sent to me an email and phone messages as soon as she heard that international news and she worried about my safe and rest of life in the U.S. My grandmother wanted to me to come back to Korea in a week even I didn’t finish my internship and English study. So I had to calm down my family. I said that I’m okay and alive repeatedly. It was not serious here, in the U.S.!
Actually, I’ve been praying for my family and friends in Korea. Because two months ago, the capital city, Seoul. Some parts of the road nearby Mountain were demolished by landslides and about hundred people died or injured. In fact, it was unusual accidents in Korea. Specially, in Seoul, the government and citizens used to prepare well all coming disasters such as Typhoons, heavy rains and snows. After the latest Japan Earthquakes, the Korean government already made preparations for unexpected disasters. However, in spite of their efforts, they lost people and precious properties cause of the heavy rains! I agreed that the saying “to be prepared is half the victory”. We should prepare many disasters through warnings from the environment.
Also now I’m preparing for my future at ThinkTalk. I’m training and studying Broadcast business and English for unexpected chances. I’m adjusting well to DC life and happy to get this opportunity. “No gains without Pains.” This is my principle and I’m ready to enjoy the pains J
