Hump Day Movie Day: Richard Linklater and Fast Food Nation

Welcome back to ThinkTalk's Hump Day Movie Day. Every Wednesday we're going to pull a favorite interview from the archives. This week, our feature showing is a Director's Cut interview with Richard Linklater, the man behind Fast Food Nation. He sat down in the ThinkTalk studios to answer questions from the University of the District of Columbia. He talks about how he became successful as a director, and also gives tips on becoming a good playwright.

Richard Linklater's work gained popularity during the independent film renaissance of the 1990s. From Houston Texas, Linklater dropped out of Sam Houston State University to work on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. It was during this time that Linklater discovered both his love for writing and his love for movies. He moved to Austin where he bought a Super-8 camcorder and taught himself filmmaking. Linklater's best-known films include Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, School of Rock and the remake of Bad News Bears. In 2005, Linklater was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his film Before Sunset.
