The Daily Roundup: Time to party like it's 2009

Welcome to the Daily Roundup. Each day at the ThinkTalk Blog we will post some links that we find informative, interesting, or just plain funny. The goal is to let you know what else is going on out there, and ultimately help you with the development of your career.

Welcome to 2009, our dear ThinkTalk readers (In case you're wondering, we are aware that yesterday was the first day of 2009, but the ThinkTalk crew was too busy celebrating our day off from work to write a New Year’s post).

In case your New Years wasn’t as exciting as planned (or you fell asleep before midnight like I did last year), here’s a few festive New Year’s Eve moments from around the globe:

I can’t help it. Fireworks just make me all giddy.

New Years is a time for new beginnings, so what is it that you want to accomplish in 2009? Do you need motivation to finally go out and get that internship? Are you trying to graduate after 4… or 5… or 7 (hey, we don’t judge) wonderful years of college? Are you going to be battling other new grads for your first job? If you’re anything like I was in college, your goals don't extend much farther than surviving this semester's finals week with your grades and dignity somewhat in tact. But if you took the time to make some career-related goals this year, what would it take to accomplish them?

Here at the ThinkTalk Blog, our goal for 2009 is to bring you all the great career advice we stumble across, as well as any information that we think has the potential to rock your socks off. We hope we can help you achieve your goals as well.

We wanted to kick off 2009 with some particularly good links. Here’s to your next 363 days of career awesomeness . . .

Associated Content Finds: 10 resolutions for the typical college kid. At a loss for New Year’s resolutions? USA.gov has a list of popular resolutions and resources to help you meet them. There are also some good, simple ideas here that might get you motivated.

Employee Evolution Reviews: Some of its best posts of 2008. There are some really good ideas in here. My favorites were the articles on committing to entrepreneurship, speaking tips for young professionals and explaining yourself when you screw up at work.

Chris Brogan Gives Away: A FREE e-book called “Using the Social Web to Find Work.” There are some tips for using LinkedIn, blogs, Facebook and other social media to improve your online professional presence. What better way to start the new year than to get in touch with the latest ways to make technology work for you? Job hunters had it easy in the 90s—they just had to network at professional luncheons.

Fortune Lists: The 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in 2008. Get some inspiration from women who discovered what is takes to be successful.

Brazen Careerist Has: Ways you can attend the 56th Presidential Inauguration. If you are looking forward to January 20th more than any other day this year, then this post is for you.

Wikipedia Announces: A new project to make the site more friendly for first-time writers. Most of us don’t have an appreciation for what life was like before Wikipedia and the Internet made finding information as easy as opening your web browser. People actually used to have to go to the library to find that stuff out before. Maybe you could contribute and write an article to educate the masses.

That does it for today. Enjoy your first weekend of 2009 and we'll see you next week here at the ThinkTalk blog.
