We have all seen how much our parents work a week...about 40+ hours a week. We have seen how they run their career and seen the time they devote to their job. I see it as a blueprint to how I would approach my career and work hours—hey, if it worked for my parents, it can work for me.
But, according to a report published by Yahoo! Finance there are economists who are suggesting for a 21-hour work week!
The claim is that more people will be able to work if people with jobs will work less and allow those unemployed take those hours. More time with the family, help the economy, and help those with no jobs are some of the factors for this proposed idea.
Nonetheless, I doubt that people will only like working 21-hours. People are used to working 40+ hours and making the money they are. By cutting the work hours, it means workers will be working less, but also earning less, which in other words means less money to spend. We will have to learn how to live within our new means.
In my personal opinion, we are already having trouble living within our financial means now (thus the credit card and debt) and adapting to a 21-hour work and pay will take a lot of time to adapt to. Once, again personal opinion and I would like to hear yours.
As individuals who will be looking for employment soon, what do you think? Is this for the better or do you think we will be earning too little compared to the amount we are paying for our degree?
